Chinook - Photo by Michael EamesMore Bus Bournemouth Air Festival organisers are delighted to announce that the Chinook will be joining the ever-growing line-up of awesome aviation taking to the skies at this year’s More Bus Bournemouth Air Festival.

Operating the largest fleet of Chinook Support Helicopters after the US Army, the RAF helicopters, capable of speeds up to 160kts will be displaying Saturday and Sunday.

Jon Weaver Air Festival Director said; “One of our objectives for 2009 is to build on the already impressive air craft line-up – by announcing the Chinook, as a new air display for this year, we are working to achieve this goal.”

The Chinook is continually being modified and upgraded to keep it at the forward edge of the battlefield. Spectators at this year’s Festival may notice a newly modified Chinook sporting a 714A engine – where engine exhausts are angled up and out.  If you miss the display you can always check out the life-size replica Chinook which is planned to be in the RAF Village, Pier Approach.

Added Chief Technician Rob Harmer, RAF; “The Chinook is a very capable and versatile support helicopter; the displays are breathtaking you have to see the manoeuvres to believe what the pilots can do with over 12 tons of aircraft. We are certainly looking forward to impressing the crowds at this year’s Air Festival.”
